The brief
A zine for the web that should feel like printed matter: something you hold and read, not something that scrolls past.
What I built
Late Edition, a pocket zine for people who work nights. You turn its pages, tear tabs off a flyer, peel stickers and cut out a coupon.
- Pages turn by click, drag, swipe or arrow key, and a short story folds out of the middle.
- Photos print in two riso inks, slightly off register, the way a cheap copier would.
- Every page is also its own static page underneath, so the story, the letters and the small print are plain, readable HTML.

How it works
Astro builds every spread as static HTML. The halftone is drawn on canvas from ordinary photos, so the print look costs nothing to author.
What came of it
A demo issue with a fictional masthead, written and built end to end. The same approach suits a magazine, a menu or an annual report.
